Megan (Maupin) Burgess (B.S.Ed. ’06 Sports Med) and husband Nathan welcomed their first child, John Preston, on April 29, 2016. Megan is an orthopedic and women’s health physical therapist at SSM Physical Therapy, and lab assistant and small group advisor for Washington University in St. Louis School of Physical Therapy’s DPT program.

Kathryn Alves (M.T. ’05, Ph.D. ’16 Spec Ed) received AERA’s 2017 Special Education Research SIG Dissertation Award for her work titled, “Using Multimedia-Based Instruction to Improve Teacher Knowledge about Evidence-Based Practices for Reading Comprehension.” She is an assistant professor of special education at Longwood University.

Ronnie Bartley (M.Ed. ’79 Admin & Supv) has retired as president of Northeastern Technical College in Cheraw, South Carolina. Previously, Mr. Bartley was interim president of West Virginia State Community and Technical College. He also served in various positions in the Virginia Community College System, including 11 years as dean of business at Southwest Virginia Community College. He worked in education for more than 46 years and held leadership positions as a teacher, college faculty member, college dean, vice president of academic affairs and twice as college president. Mr. Bartley and his wife live in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Patrick Campbell (M.Ed. ’13 Admin & Supv) is moving back to Charlottesville after a stint as secondary school principal and AP Government teacher in Atlanta.
Randall Capps (Ed.D. ’70 C&I) was awarded the Doctor of Humanities by Kentucky Wesleyan College at the May 2016 commencement to recognize his career accomplishments in higher education and work with nonprofit organizations across the US.
Daniel Carroll (M.Ed ’06 Health & PE) was named the 2017 Vito Perriello Secondary School Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Erika Caruso (M.T. ’05 Elem Ed) and her husband, Thomas J. Caruso (Col ’04), welcomed a daughter, Marielle Frances, on June 1, 2016. Marielle joins sister Charlotte Jane, 2. The family lives in Menlo Park, California.
