Rennie Coleman (M.Ed. ’71) is writing a book due out spring 2014. It is the life story of an Alabama son from the hills of north Perry County whose high school principal informed him that Latin was for college bound students, not “Red Clay farm kids.” This farm kid made it any way: US Army for 24 years, retiring as LTC. He went on to earn a BS from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree at the University of Virginia. He then spent 18 years as a teacher and assistant principal at Fairfax High School–not too bad for a Red Clay farm kid. The book is about the use of life experiences in the daily pursuits of the learning process.
